The new meaning of luxury
For a long time, luxury has been defined by excess. More space. More things. More speed. More comfort layered on top of comfort.
But something has shifted.
For me, luxury has taken on a quieter, deeper meaning. One that is not loud, yet is present. One that takes you fully and fills you up in a subtle way. Sometimes you might not even notice it, yet it leaves you feeling alive and vibrant.
This is how I understand luxury now:
Luxury is simplicity
It’s waking up without urgency, in a comfortable bed, in a room that has very little inside, while outside, the jungle beams vibrantly. It’s drinking brewed coffee slowly, watching the sun rise in the earliest hours. It’s feeling the ground under your bare feet, still wet from the early morning dew.
It’s not having everything. It’s finding contentment in very little. In the simple things.
Simplicity is not a lack. It’s a conscious choice to remove the noise so what matters can breathe.
Luxury is being held by nature
True luxury is being surrounded by life. Birds singing, cicadas buzzing, the orchestra of early morning jungle sounds. Raindrops or wind blowing instead of constant stimulation. Trees that have been standing long before us and will remain long after.
Nature doesn’t entertain us. It regulates us. It brings the nervous system back to balance. It reminds the body how to soften, relax, and be present.
This is the land where Balsa Nueva Lodge exists.
Balsa Nueva is the place where I live and host. A jungle lodge on a hill, surrounded by jungle and ocean views, where the rhythm of the day is set by light, weather, and nature.
Nature isn’t the backdrop here. It’s the main character.
Luxury is food with soul
Luxury is food grown without chemicals. Food that follows the seasons, the region, and the climate. Food sourced locally, respectfully, intentionally. Meals prepared with presence, love, and care. Not rushed. Not wasted. Cooked to nourish — not to impress.
Maga Nómada was never created to follow trends. It was born from a way of living. Of cooking, traveling, and being. One that values presence over excess.
After many years of walking this path, that way of living found a home.
Alma Tierra Café is my new house.
It is the culmination of me.
The top of a hill I have been climbing for years, and at the same time, the place from where I now soar.
The café space at Balsa Nueva has existed for years. It was built long before I was ready to fully step into it, before my way of cooking and my relationship with food had taken their shape. Looking back, the philosophy was already there, quietly forming as part of the process.
Opening Alma Tierra Café now feels like a conscious choice. One made from truth, joy, and devotion to my service. It feels light, playful, and generous. I want to feed people well, to nourish their day, to be available and reachable, and to share what I love.
Balsa Nueva doesn’t sell an experience. It allows one. And from here, Maga Nómada continues exactly as it always has — cooking intuitively, honoring the land, creating nourishment for the body and the soul.
And I want to do it here, held by the land and beauty of Balsa Nueva, where nature sets the rhythm, and everything moves a little slower.
The café opens now because I am ready, and because this place has been ready all along.
Luxury is clean elements
The simplest—and most vital—elements for a life of wellness.
Fresh air to breathe. Pure water you trust. Skin warmed by the sun.
Things many have forgotten to value, yet here, they are abundant.
Luxury is human connection
Luxury is laughing and living with joy, losing awareness of time, sharing a table, and having real conversations with good company.
It’s eye contact. Presence. Feeling seen without performing. Meeting new people while traveling and forming profound connections. Sharing yourself just as you are. Being yourself freely.
In a world obsessed with productivity, undistracted connection is rare and precious.
Luxury is time
Time to write, to move, to meditate, to nap, to do nothing at all. Time to feel again. Time to know yourself.
Luxury is not filling every moment. It’s allowing space for who you are to return.
Luxury is traveling with care
Low-impact travel. Authentic places. Places with soul.
Not consuming destinations, but entering them gently — listening, learning, respecting.
Both Maga Nómada and Balsa Nueva exist in this intention. To host without taking more than necessary. To offer without extracting.
Above all, luxury is presence
Appreciating what is. Not chasing what’s next.
Remembering that nourishment is not only physical. It’s emotional, mental, and spiritual.
It’s finding yourself again. Not by escaping your life, but by returning to your essence.
This is the new luxury.
Quiet. Honest. Rooted. Alive.
And if you feel drawn here, it’s probably because you’re ready to remember.
