The Magic of the Maga
I’m so excited to write this blog, the very first for Maga Nómada. A few years ago, I had a blog called El Oráculo de Venus. I’ve always loved blogs—they feel like such enriching spaces where I, as a writer, can pour myself into my passion and publish whenever I feel like it, while my readers gain access to the many experiences and passions that make me who I am.
So when I decided to create a new website for my business, I knew it had to have a blog. This blog is the pulse of my work, my voice, and the essence of who I am—a chef, a mother, a witch, a maga (maga means "sorceress", representing a woman who channels wisdom, intuition, and magic in her craft.), a spiritual woman, a creative, and an artist. I am multi-passionate. For years, I struggled to define myself. Today, I know I don’t fit into any one box—I am unique. I am all of this and more.
Through this first post, I want to welcome everyone who arrives here. I am Angélica, the hands, and voice behind Maga Nómada. I started cooking by chance 19 years ago. Before that, I had never really cooked, but I come from a paternal lineage of great cooks and a maternal lineage of chefs, herbalists, and alchemists. I worked in kitchens from a very young age and always loved it. When I arrived at Tumbo de las Olas, I unexpectedly had to take charge of the kitchen service, and in the blink of an eye, I found myself replicating the recipes of my childhood—always guided by my mother and the old recipes of my grandmother.
And that’s how my passion was born. I immersed myself in books, cooking blogs, and magazines, teaching myself everything. I learned the fundamental principles of gastronomy. For many years, I battled with my inner voices—doubts that made me feel less worthy because I didn’t have formal culinary training. But over time, everything began to shift. I learned to meditate, surrounded myself with knowledgeable people, and learned from them. I found strength in teamwork, let go of my fear of being seen, and stopped chasing perfection. I chose to grow in confidence and self-esteem.
From there, everything blossomed beautifully. I reconnected with my passion. I learned to channel and realized that my first channelings had already happened in the kitchen. I discovered my magic—because I saw it myself. I didn’t need anyone to tell me. I knew that my art extended beyond the culinary. I am a bridge between heaven and earth, a conduit through which prayers descend and infuse food with intention. Nutrition goes beyond the nutritional content of ingredients. Eating is receiving—receiving life, vitality, love, joy, pleasure, and abundance. My art is a transmission. And nothing brings me greater joy than being able to transmit something meaningful through what I create.
That’s why I love writing, traveling, and photography. Life itself is a work of art, and I want people to remember that. To allow themselves to surrender to the magic and joy of living. To say yes to life. To remember that their life is their greatest masterpiece, and their creativity is the brush.
This is why I do what I do—so that, from every table and every space, we can share and transmit this vitality and love for life.
Without further ado, welcome to Maga Nómada. I hope to see you at my table. It will be an honor to serve you. A joy to share with you.
With love,
Angélica
